Exclusive: Bosingwa settled at Chelsea

by Laurent Picard , 27 November 2008

Jose Bosingwa has sent a powerful message to Chelsea's fans by stating he would love to remain at Stamford Bridge for ‘a long time’, during an exclusive interview with setanta.com.

The 26-year-old appears to be the answer to the West Londoners' right back problems, as the Portugal international has imposed himself as a key defender under Luiz Felipe Scolari’s new regime.

And the Congo-born does not regret having left Porto last summer, as he enjoys playing in England for the title contenders.

The defender took a deep breath and told setanta.com: “To be honest, I am having a lot of fun playing Premier League football, especially within this team.

“So I am definitely very happy to have signed with Chelsea Football Club and I wish I stay here for a long time.”

Chelsea manager Scolari is famous for his touchline histrionics during the games, but Bosingwa is focused on his job and does not mind if the Brazilian shouts for 90 minutes.

“I do not know if he screams because when I am playing, I am totally concentrated and do not listen to anything,” he said.

“Him shouting may mean he is not happy, but the best you can do when your manager looks upset is concentrate yourself on every touch.”

The Portugal international has been hailed by his boss, and took it as an honour from a coach he rates highly.

“Thanks to him for saying good things about me, this means a lot,” Bosingwa added. “Working twice as hard is the best thing to do as a pay-back.”

Chelsea welcome London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, and the defender is hopeful the home advantage will boost their chances against The Gunners.

He said: “This is going to be a huge game and no doubt Stamford Bridge’s fans will help us a lot to take all three points.

“I do not know if this is the best moment to play Arsenal because of what [William] Gallas said. You cannot expect them to decrease, they are Arsenal. Who am I to judge them?”

And Bosingwa finally set sights on beating CFR Cluj in the Champions League in two weeks' time in order to qualify for the next round.

He said: “Regarding the group stages, we had no plan but winning game after game, which is important if you want to make it; and now what we have to do is finish the work off against Cluj.”
