Woodgate: We could still go down

by Robin Hackett , 08 December 2008

Jonathan Woodgate told Setanta Sports that he believes Tottenham’s 2-0 win at West Ham was their best performance of the season – but feels the team are still in relegation trouble.

Second-half goals from Ledley King and Jamie O’Hara ensured Spurs moved above West Ham on goal difference on Monday night, and Woodgate feels that they fully deserved the three points.

“It was a must-win game,” he told Setanta Sports.

“I thought we dominated the game throughout. I thought we deserved the victory.

“It was probably the best we’ve played all season.

“It was just hard work. You know what you’re going to get with West Ham – they’ve got some good players there and they work hard.

“We had to win the battle first and I thought the whole thing was magnificent.”

However, Woodgate is taking nothing for granted and believes the team could still find themselves in The Championship next season.

“We’re still in the relegation battle,” he said.

“There’s only three points between us and 17th place.

“Hopefully we can climb the table, but we’ve got to get out of this position first that we’ve got ourselves in.”
