Joleon Lescott is eager to improve his form and says playing out of position is not the problem.
The England defender is a centre-back by trade but has operated in the left-back berth for the majority of this season and through stages of the 2007/08 campaign.
Lescott, the goalscorer, was on show against Aston Villa with a brace in a losing cause on Sunday and he feels a long way short of last year’s form which snared him the Everton Player of the Season award.
“I’m disappointed with the way things have gone personally so far this season overall. Consistency is the key for any players and I’m not different,” Lescott told the club’s website.
“I haven’t hit the heights I did last season or the standards I want to set. You always want to improve and get better, and this season has been quite frustrating for me in terms of performances.
“Hopefully I can get back to basics and get a run of consistency again.”
Looking at the bigger picture, Lescott believes Everton are in a favourable position to launch an assault on The Premier League in the second half of the campaign.
“The fact that we’re still in touch with the top sides without playing as well as we can is something we can be quite pleased with, and we’re still confident that we can go on a run of form and put together a long streak without losing.”
