Frank Lampard feels Michael Owen would be an astute signing for any side, but feels Chelsea have enough quality at their disposal already.
Owen’s future at Newcastle is up in the air, with his contract heading towards its final six months.
The England international has been offered a new contract, but there has been no indication as to whether he will put pen-to-paper.
Chelsea have been one of the clubs linked with a bid for the 29-year-old, but Lampard feels that in Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba, Stamford Bridge is bursting at the seams with striking quality.
"Obviously it's the manager's decision,” Lampard told The Sun. “Michael's a top player - he showed that with the goal he scored against Portsmouth last week, it was an unbelievable finish, top quality.
"If he is fit, which he's struggled with a bit, he's a top, top player.
"At the right price, whether it's for us or not, he's going to be a good buy for someone for sure.
"But with Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba fit, I'd look at us and say we've got enough."
