Distin casts doubt over future

by Joseph Caron Dawe , 27 December 2008

Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin has admitted that he is unsure over his future at the club, and will decide on whether he wants to stay at Fratton Park in January.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from the South Coast outfit following the departures of Sulley Muntari and Pedro Mendes in the summer, and with Lassana Diarra having agreed a move to Real Madrid for the New Year uncertainty has been bred at the Premier League club.

Distin has now revealed that he will wait to see what moves the Pompey board make in the January transfer market before he announces his own personal plans.

"Since last year a lot of things have changed," Distin told French sports daily L'Equipe.

"The club have said that they are waiting until January to announce what direction they want to go in.

"We're nearly there. We will see if the best players that have left will be replaced by players of equal standing or not.

"Once the club have shown what their choice is, I will make mine in consequence."

Portsmouth boss Tony Adams has already said he only wants players dedicated to the club to remain at Fratton, and is unlikely to be impressed with Distin’s latest comments.

The former Manchester City player has been touted as a possible target for both Tottenham and Arsenal, but has denied links with either side.

"At the moment I'm waiting," he added.

"I've read that I'm moving to Arsenal but neither me, nor my agent, have had any contact at all with them."
