Joseph Yobo is poised to sign a new long-term contract at Everton, the Nigeria international’s agent has confirmed.
Yobo has been a cornerstone of David Moyes’ side since joining The Toffees in the summer of 2002 and is set to be rewarded for his ongoing loyalty with a new five-year deal at Goodison.
The 28-year-old’s current contract expires in 2011 but it is reported that the new agreement will bring him in line with some of the club’s top earners and also include a provision for a testimonial should he see out the deal.
Yobo’s representative, John Shittu, has revealed that an agreement is close to being reached.
"Joe loves Everton and he is happy at the club so the negotiations have been straightforward,” Shittu told KickOffNigeria.com.
"This is possibly his last major contract and it is important for us to see that he is well taken care.
"Fortunately, the club are also happy with him and really want to keep him so there is agreement both ways."
