Pav dreams of United switch

by Toby Davis , 28 February 2009

Roman Pavlyuchenko has dropped a bombshell ahead of the Carling Cup final by issuing a come-and-get-me plea to Manchester United.

The Tottenham striker admitted it would be a ‘dream’ to follow former White Hart Lane striker Dimitar Berbatov to Old Trafford.

But the Russia international stoked the fires ahead Sunday’s Wembley final by suggesting the Bulgarian was an ‘arrogant snob’, who would not be welcomed back in North London.

Pavlyuchenko revealed the United forward had left a sour taste at White Hart Lane after forcing through a move to United at the start of the season.

Asked about the possibility of a switch to United, the Russian said: "It would be wrong not to dream about this.

“I have realised that The Premier League is exactly why you should start playing football in the first place, and United are the leaders of it. Once your first dream comes true you must start dreaming of another target."

And the Russian admitted if Berbatov ever wished to return to Spurs, he would not be welcomed back in the same manner as another returning hero Robbie Keane.

“Keane returned to Spurs as if he never left the club,” Pavlyuchenko added.

“It's evident that he's a man of authority inside the team, which is good for us. He was always liked as far as I can judge.

"If Berbatov returned it would be taken quite differently. I heard tales that he was an arrogant snob who, after training, would just throw his dirty boots to the man who takes care of our footwear, saying, 'Clean them for me'. No one likes such people. Still, he's now playing for United."
