Ajax remain third in the table after their 2-0 win at FC Utrecht - but the game was marred by crowd disturbances.
Gregory van der Wiel found the top corner in the ninth minute to give the visitors the lead, and Jan Vertonghen sealed the three points in the second half as he headed home a Rob Wielaert free-kick.
The headlines were made off the pitch, however, as the home fans sang offensive songs as well as throwing fireworks and other items as the stadium announcer repeatedly called for calm.
Four people were arrested.
Steve McClaren’s FC Twente, meanwhile, remain nine points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar after beating ADO Den Haag 1-0 at the Arke Stadion on Sunday.
Twente recovered from Thursday’s Uefa Cup exit against Marseille to remain in second place in the table thanks to Blaise Nkufo’s 24th minute header from a Ronnie Stam cross.
It was Nkufo’s 100th goal in the league and he said: “After the missed chance against Olympique Marseille last Thursday, that was the best feeling.”
Feyenoord twice came from behind to record a 2-2 draw with Vitesse Arnhem at the De Kuip Stadion.
Nick Hofs put the visitors ahead on 18 minutes before Georgino Wijnaldum levelled just before half-time.
And while Slovenia midfielder Dalibor Stevanovic again put Feyenoord ahead on the hour, veteran striker Roy Makaay made it 2-2 only 12 minutes later.
In the day’s other game, rock-bottom FC Volendam were denied a victory as NEC Nijmegen clinched a last-minute goal in their 1-1 draw.
Substitute Melvin Platje looked to have given Volendam all three points when he scored shortly after his introduction at the start of the second half, but Milano Koenders equalised in the dying moments to leave the hosts with just one point from their last four games.
