Luka Modric has hit out at Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo for his theatrics in the Carling Cup final at Wembley.
The Tottenham midfielder performed well on the big stage but saw his side beaten in the penalty shoot-out with Ronaldo converting one of the spot-kicks.
The World Player of the Year was booked by referee Chris Foy after falling when challenged by Ledley King inside the box and hit a post in the closing stages of normal time.
Modric was not impressed by his fellow flair player and feels diving should not be part of the winger's game.
"Look, I don't have anything against Cristiano Ronaldo," he informed Sportske Novosti.
"He is a great player but he is really over-reacting with all this theatrical diving.
"In England, where they talk about fairness all the time and where strong, but fair, play is everything, such things like crying and diving all the time, are even more in the spotlight.
"I really don't know why he needs to do all this."
Ronaldo seems to be receiving some criticism from his fellow Premier League professionals of late with Aston Villa's Carlos Cuellar suggesting this week that the United star would not be a success in La Liga.
Modric was himself involved in a controversial incident when being fouled by John O'Shea with some pundits reckoning the Irishman should have received a second yellow card for the offence.
