Ajax set to beat United to Dane

by Adam Marshall , 17 March 2009

Ajax are closing in on Nicolai Boilesen, even though Manchester United have shown an interest in the young Dane.

The Amsterdam giants have prepared a contract for the Brondby defender, who had trials at Old Trafford after coming to Sir Alex Ferguson's attention.

The 17-year-old stopper has already been compared to Liverpool's Daniel Agger and Ajax are in pole position to win the chase for his signature.

With Christian Eriksen already at the Amsterdam ArenA, the presence of a fellow countryman looks to be tipping the balance in the Eredivisie side's favour.

"It will be exciting and I am happy to look at what Ajax can offer me," Boilesen told Sporten.

"There is obviously a positive impact on the decision when there is already a Dane there."

Chelsea and Monaco have also been tracking the youngster.
