Marseille hero Tyrone Mears has expressed his joy after scoring his side’s decisive goal against Ajax.
L’OM progressed to the Uefa Cup quarter finals on Wednesday night, courtesy of a Mears header in extra-time, but the Stockport-born has refused to be called a ‘saviour’.
Mears, who is on loan from Derby this season, hit the back of the net in the 108th minute at Amsterdam ArenA to help his team claim a 2-2 draw and go through to the last 8.
He told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted for the team after such a difficult game.
“We didn’t play very well but kept the same state of mind and commitment.
“We did prove that we were capable of being back on track, after Ajax opened the scoring.
“I’m not a saviour and I must say it was an easy goal to score.
“Now that we have passed this stage, let’s see where the quarter finals bring us.”
