Rangers striker Kenny Miller has backed team-mate Barry Ferguson to bounce back from the controversial incidents on international duty this week.
Ferguson was dropped from the starting line-up as Scotland took on Iceland in Wednesday evening’s must-win World Cup qualifier after he was involved in an all-night drinking session at Loch Lomond’s luxurious Cameron House Hotel at the weekend.
And, although it has been suggested that the midfielder’s relationship with Scotland boss George Burley could be beyond repair, Miller believes his colleague still has a part to play on the road to South Africa.
“Barry will be disappointed not to play against Iceland,” he said.
“He’s the national captain and he wants to play just like everyone else, so he won’t be happy, but I’m sure he will bounce back from it.
"He is still the captain and I’m sure he is still very much part of the plans for the rest of this campaign.
“We want the best players available to the national team, especially for the three big games that remain in this campaign, and Barry Ferguson is one of the best players the country has at the moment.
“Hopefully he’ll still be around.”
