Gavin Rae has heaped praise on team-mate Ross McCormack after Scotland’s 2-1 win over Iceland.
McCormack hit the opener at Hampden and Rae felt the winger, who is also a colleague at club level, was a standout in a hard encounter.
“I think you could see that they hadn’t had a game and our boys had been in Holland and it was a tough game for us and towards the end of the game they got a couple of chances,” the 31-year-old said.
“Obviously once they got the goal it was disappointing but it was great to get back in front.”
He continued: “He’s done brilliant since he signed for us, he’s been quality in the last two games and getting games week-in-week-out with us [Cardiff City] has helped him.
“He was brilliant, especially with the performances in the last two games and he’s probably been man of the match in them then he gets a goal and you can’t ask for much more than that.
“He was giving great deliveries as well and overall he’s been great.”
At Cardiff there is a growing band of former Rangers stars with Chris Burke, McCormack and Rae all previously plying their trade at Ibrox.
But there is speculation that Stevie Smith could be the next to head to Wales and after hearing the left back had a trial at Ninian Park, Rae is hopeful he signs in the future.
The former Dundee star explained: “I heard that and I spoke to Smithy and he was down and there’s a lot of ex-Rangers players at Cardiff and the gaffer seems have a bit of success with the ex-Rangers boys, so it’s great and he’s a great wee player.”
