Porto fans should be proud of their team according to assistant boss Jose Gomes, who has labelled Cristiano Ronaldo the world’s best footballer.
The Dragoes outfit are out of the Champions League after conceding a narrow home defeat to United, but Gomes wants to take the positives from the game.
The tactician has been impressed by his players, who claimed a stunning 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in the first leg, but who could not hit the back of the net on home soil.
Gomes has hailed United’s squad and heaped praise on Ronaldo.
“We are massively proud of what the players achieved,” Gomes told As. “What is for sure is that it has been a tough round, but a good one as well.
“We were aware of which club we were going to play against – they are world champions, European champions and England champions.
“Manchester United have a great squad composed of famous players, including the world’s best in Cristiano.
“Porto challenged them and the fans must be proud of their players. The result in Manchester was great for us, but at the end of the day we could not score at home.”
