Eredivisie: AZ slip up

by Laurent Picard , 18 April 2009

Eredivisie leaders AZ Alkmaar conceded a stunning home defeat to Vitesse Arnhem on Saturday night, but the Dutch team remain 11 points clear.

AZ goal machine Mounir El-Hamdaoui opened the scoring, but Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Alexander Butter hit back for Vitesse in the 2-1 defeat at the Almaarderhout stadium.

NEC Nijmegen and Roda JC shared the spoils at Kerkrade De Goffert, with Cisse Sekou opening the scoring for the visitors and Bas Silburn equalising with nine minutes to go (1-1).

De Graafschap took all three points away to second-to-bottom side Groningen at the De Vijverberg on Saturday night thanks to Marcus Berg, who bagged the only goal of the game.

And finally, Roy Makaay scored a winning penalty for Feyenoord against Steve McClaren’s FC Twente – who remain second – at the De Kuip Stadion (1-1).
