Gerrard out of Tigers clash

by Toby Davis , 24 April 2009

Steven Gerrard has failed to recover from a groin injury and will play no part in Liverpool’s crucial Premier League clash with Hull on Saturday.

The Reds skipper has not played since the Champions League quarter final first leg with Chelsea, and will not be risked at the KC Stadium as Liverpool look to get their title charge back on track.

Manager Rafa Benitez told the official club website: "He is not fit and won't be available. I think he will be available next week because he's improving, but this game is too soon.

"The rest of the team is available - we have a full squad."

Benitez’s side need to get back to winning ways if they are to have any hope of wrestling the Premier League crown out of Manchester United’s grasp, having dropped points in an eight-goal thriller against Arsenal on Tuesday.

Following United’s victory over Portsmouth the following day, Liverpool now trail Sir Alex Ferguson’s side by three points, having played a game more.
