Newcastle United have been watching Erik Huseklepp and Lillestrom's Frode Kippe reckons the Brann winger is good enough to play for The Magpies.
With so much uncertainty surrounding the Tyneside club, interim manager Alan Shearer is only focusing on trying to avoid relegation - with a tough trip to Liverpool, live on Setanta, up next.
However, United scouts have been keeping tabs on Huseklepp, who has also sparked interest from Lens with his impressive performances.
"Absolutely, he is an incredibly exciting player who is very good when one-on-one," said former Liverpool defender Kippe to TV2 when asked if he felt his opponent could represent Newcastle.
"He can go far if he carries on like this."
The winger was keen to play down any link with Newcastle and stress he is just concentrating on the job in hand.
"I cannot go around thinking about these things as the focus and performance will disappear before you know it," he warned.
Huseklepp, 24, has three caps for Norway and joined Brann from Fylligen in 2005.
