The big news ahead of kick-off for Bremen was the presence of captain Frank Baumann (who had a late fitness test) in the starting line-up. Sebastien Prodl replaced the injured Mertesacker in defence, while Alexandros Tziolis was surprisingly overlooked for Peter Niemeyer in midfield.
