Warnock wants West Ham starlet

Crystal Palace have confirmed their interest in signing Freddie Sears on loan next season and the West Ham striker appears open to the idea of moving to The Championship.

Sears drew comparisons to Hammers favourite Tony Cottee when scoring on his debut against Blackburn Rovers in March 2008 but has not netted in 22 appearances this season.

Gianfranco Zola recently confirmed he was exploring the possibility of allowing the 19-year-old to leave the club on loan, although Sears remains part of his long-term plans.

Now Warnock hopes to bring the young striker to Selhurst Park for next season.

"I will speak to Mick Jones and our chief scout about him and have a look at our scouting reports," Warnock told the Croydon Advertiser.

"Freddie Sears is the sort of player that would interest us - we are looking for players of Premier League quality and experience."

Sears has hinted that a move to Palace would appeal as he looks to continue his footballing education in London.

"When you are not playing at West Ham, you just want to play football and going on loan is something I would definitely be interested in," Sears said in the East London Advertiser.

"Some of the boys have come back after going out on loan and you can see that it is helped - just confidence-wise and just playing in front of thousands of people every week.

"We have discussed what could happen at the start of next season and I think The Championship is a good, strong level to go and develop your football.

"For me, a London team would be nice, but if you have to go away from home, you live with it."
