Exclusive: 'Don't get rid of Adebayor'

by Laurent Picard , 26 May 2009

Speaking to setanta.com, Arsenal legend Robert Pires has urged his old club not to part ways with Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Villarreal midfielder has insisted that The Gunners must stick with Togolese striker Adebayor and reject a possible offer from Serie A top guns Milan.

Pires has reacted to the growing rumors linking the athletic forward to the Rossoneri, and hailed him as one of the best attackers in Europe.

Adebayor has declared that he is flattered by the Italians' interest in his services after club vice-president Adriano Galliani confirmed his admiration for the 25-year-old.

As far as he is concerned, Pires expects that Adebayor will rediscover his best form at Emirates Stadium next term after a disappointing season.

“He has compared Milan to Beyonce? Has he [laughs]? As far as I am concerned, I think that he is a talented player with interesting characteristics, and the fact that Milan are after him shows how good he is,” Pires exclusively told setanta.com.

“The Italian team would never try to take him if he was not a good player. He can do much better, but you cannot be at your best season in, season out.

“To my mind Arsenal should try to keep him because he is the kind of player that brings a lot to Arsenal.

“I do not mind at all about the player’s attitude. Everybody has their way to play, to celebrate the goals, to say what is wrong to their team-mates. It does not bother me at all, sincerely.

“The fans would like to see him shine every time he is playing. But as they say, you can never please everyone. And I know what I am talking about [laughs].

“You have to take him as he is and adapt to him.”
