Salif hints at Stoke exit

by Alex Livie , 26 May 2009

Salif Diao has revealed he is likely to move on from Stoke in the summer.

The midfielder has been with Stoke for three years, initially joining on loan, but expects to head for pastures new after revealing he has not been given a serious offer from The Potters.

“I am going on holiday to have a good rest with my family and then see what happens,” he told The Sentinel. “At the moment I don’t have a serious offer from Stoke, so if I get an offer from somewhere else, I might be moving.

“I have just had a few contacts with a few clubs, so I’m waiting to see. A lot of things were undecided until the last day of the season. Hopefully, in the coming week, I will have something more official.”

Diao will likely leave Stoke on good terms, as he has heaped praise on Potters boss Tony Pulis for resurrecting his career two years ago.

“The first person I need to thank is the manager,” he added. “I thank him 1,000 times because, when I was in a hole, he was the one who gave me his hand to pull me out. I was thinking about retiring then, but now I am enjoying the game again. I am only 32 and think I still have four years left in my career.

“I also want to thank the Stoke fans. They have been there supporting every single player.

“They have shown they are the best and the support they’ve had for the players has been massive. They have been the 12th man on the pitch and make a massive difference.”
