Brown plots European qualification

by Robin Hackett , 28 May 2009

Hull boss Phil Brown says he intends to take the side into Europe in the near future.

The Tigers made a phenomenal start to their first season in the top flight and were among the Champions League places in the opening weeks, but they won just one of their final 22 games and only escaped relegation on the final day.

However, Brown remains bullish about his team’s hopes in the coming years and feels they could compete for silverware and a place in Europe sooner rather than later.

"A European place would be the ultimate aim, either through winning a trophy or by way of standing in The Premier League," he told The Straights Times.

"How long that would take, I've got my personal ambitions.

"All I can say is that it will be in the near future."

Brown knows that he will need to strengthen his squad to achieve his aims and is planning to bring in established Premier League players this summer.

"There is money available and there's a lot of work to be done in attack and defence," he said.

"Hopefully, the improvements will come in both penalty boxes.

"We're looking at proven Premier League players – players with history in The Premier League"
