Reported Arsenal target Thomas Vermaelen has admitted that a move to The Premier League would be a dream come true, but that he is yet to receive any official approach from The Gunners or any other English club.
The 23-year-old’s form for Ajax this season has seen him roundly praised in Holland for his displays for the Amsterdam outfit.
Predictably, his performances have led to speculation over his future, with Arsene Wenger believed to be an admirer of the Belgian centre-back.
Despite the hype Vermaelen is concentrating on his duties with his country in the Far East, where he is playing in the Kirin Cup, and says he has had no contact with regards to a move anywhere.
“I do not know much,” Vermaelen said in response to questions over Arsenal’s supposed interest.
“I’m busy with my own season and after that I have the Kirin Cup.
“I hear it [the rumours], but I can say little about it. It would be nice, but I’m not there yet.”
Vermaelen would concede however that a move to The Premier League would be perfect, and that a career in The Premier League is a hope he has harboured for many years.
“For a long time actually,” he continued. “The Premier League is attractive to me. We played against Aston Villa [in the Uefa Cup] and the game was played the way it should be. For the public it is the number one sport.”
