Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has described Xabi Alonso as 'the best passer of the ball in Europe' as the latest reports suggest that Real will offer Negredo in exchange for the Spanish international.
Los Blancos have repeatedly been linked with the Liverpool midfielder despite manager Rafa Benitez saying he is not for sale.
Benitez made this clear to Alonso's agent at a recent meeting with the playmaker having three years remaining on his existing contract at Anfield.
There is a fluid situation at the Bernabeu with Manuel Pellegrini ready to move in as the new head coach, while Perez begins a second term as club president at Real.
"As a fan, I would say that Xabi is a great player. I think he is the best passer of the ball in Europe," Perez told Radio Television Espanola.
"I would be happy [to have him], but I cannot talk about the player without having spoken to Rafa Benitez, as he is the one who needs to know that we are interested in his player."
