Middlesbrough captain Emanuel Pogatetz says he is prepared to play in The Championship – but only for one season.
Boro could lose a number of players this summer after losing their Premier League status and Pogatetz was quoted in March as saying he wanted to continue playing at the highest level if they were relegated.
However, both the player and Gareth Southgate have since said the comments were taken out of context and the Austria defender has now confirmed that he would be willing to stay on for one more year.
"I'm fully focused on playing another season for Boro," he said in The Sun.
"I am going to try to help them go back up, and hope to stay at the club longer if they manage it.
"I'll only leave now if something very good comes up.
“I feel a sense of duty to the club, but I can't imagine playing in The Championship for a long time. If it's just for one year then I am ready to help them."
