Bohemians manager Pat Fenlon has blasted Giovanni Trapattoni for ignoring the Ireland claims of goalkeeper Brian Murphy.
The 26-year-old Gypsies stopper has been in impressive form for the last two seasons but Fenlon says it was no surprise that a call-up to replace Dean Kiely and Keiren Westwood was not forthcoming.
Fenlon added that Murphy would need to move to England to have any hope of international honours.
"Yeah, that's what it looks like," said Fenlon.
"I've said before that the people running the game don't have any interest in the league here.
"Unfortunately that's the way it is. There is not a lot that anyone within the league can do about that. It's disappointing because we are working really hard to improve the players. And I think over a period of time the players have improved.
"The games have improved, the quality of players has improved and the fitness levels have improved.
"People have said for years that they are part-time and their fitness levels wouldn't be good enough. But that doesn't wash anymore. I just think there is a case of a lack of interest in the set-up about our own national league, which is very sad."
