Like Darius Vassell's England career, the season is well and truly over, so it's time to dish out the end-of-season gongs.
Who made the difference in your club's season? Who lived up to all expectations like a sausage sandwich after a big night out? And who flopped like Pele without viagra?
Below, the setanta.com office has joined forces to pick our success stories and disappointments of a quite gripping campaign, feel free to congratulate us on our genius or destroy us for our cluelessness using the comments box below.
HULL
Player of the season: Michael Turner
For the second year in a row the defender won the club’s Player of the Year award, and with good reason. The Tigers’ most consistent performer throughout the campaign, the 25-year-old was one of only two outfield players in The Premier League – the other being Sylvain Distin – to have played every minute of every game this season, such was his importance to Hull.
Young player of the season: Nick Barmby
Okay, we’re only joking. The youngest player to feature for Hull this season was 22-year-old Nathan Doyle, who only featured in three league games.
Best signing: Geovanni
He may well have come in for some stick from fans for his apparent lack of application in the latter half of the season, but his efforts in the first half pretty much secured Hull’s top-flight status. Goals in the wins over Arsenal and Spurs as well as match-winning performances, and he was signed on a free.
Worst signing: Jimmy Bullard
The wisdom of signing a player with known injury problems has to be questioned, but spending £5m on him is plain crazy. Featured once – as a 53rd-minute substitute – after arriving from Fulham before being crocked again.
Disappointment of the season: Jimmy Bullard
It seems harsh to name him twice, but for exactly the same reasons as above he was a massive disappointment.
Moment of the campaign: The win at Arsenal
It must have been beyond Hull fans’ wildest dreams, but they managed – in only their sixth game in the top flight they won 2-1 at Emirates Stadium to announce their arrival in The Premier League. If it wasn’t for results like that, they would’ve gone down.
