Hull chairman Paul Duffen is convinced Fraizer Campbell will prove to be an astute piece of business, if they can wrap up a deal for the Manchester United striker.
The Tigers agreed a fee with The Red Devils for the striker last week and have been in talks with his agent.
It is believed that Campbell, who had a productive spell on loan with Hull in 2008, will meet with Duffen on Tuesday to thrash out a deal.
Duffen is keen to wrap up the transfer as soon as possible and he is convinced the reported £6 million fee will prove to be a sound move.
"This fee is the reality of being a Premier League club with ambitions to become a permanent constituent," Duffen told the Hull Daily Mail.
"Therefore, the fees get real and things become more expensive, but that is the cost of a place in the best league in the world.
"It's about doing what needs to be done for the club to move on.
"There's no point thinking we're going to be trying to build a squad to win the league next season.
"We need to focus on getting into mid-table and that's an expensive ambition, whether that is in terms of wages or transfer fees.
"It's about making sure we spend every pound wisely and ensuring we get value for money because that's the only way you achieve things, rather than just paying for it.
"In my life, I've always tried to achieve things, rather than just simply buy things."
Campbell will head to Sweden for the European Under-21 Championship on Friday and it seems Duffen would like to conclude the deal before then.
He added: "There is obviously a critical time window to conclude things, but the main thing is that we and he believe this is the right move for the next stage of his career."
Hull boss Phil Brown has issued an upbeat bulletin on Jimmy Bullard’s progress following knee surgery.
"From what I've seen, he's definitely ahead of schedule,” stated Brown.
"I wouldn't like to put a timescale on the injury, that's not fair on him, but everything is going well. I would expect he'll be out on the pitches in Bormio in some capacity and that's a boost in itself."
