Arsenal target Luc Castaignos’ agent has told setanta.com that reported interest from Liverpool in the forward is wide of the mark.
The teenager jumped to prominence with excellent displays for Holland’s Under-17 side at the European Championship and is believed to have a host of clubs on his tail.
The Castaignos camp are believed to favour a transfer to Arsenal with the proviso that he is loaned back to Feyenoord for a season.
Liverpool were rumoured to hold an interest, but Arie Treffers claims there has been no contact from Merseyside.
“The only club at this moment is Arsenal,” Treffers told setanta.com. “It is important that whichever club comes in they need to be aware that he has to stay where he is [next season].
“Luc is 16-years-old and in September he is 17. We feel it is possible for him to play in the first team at Feyenoord next season. He has developed strong and fast, he came from the amateur ranks 24 months ago, but we feel it is better for his development if he stays at Feyenoord and then go to another club.”
Arsenal could well face rival bidders, but they are unlikely to be from Liverpool.
Treffers added: "There is a lot of interest, teams saw him playing in the Under-17 Championship.
”We have been talking with Arsenal for three or four months. At this moment the the two clubs are talking. Arsenal have expressed a lot of interest, Feyenoord are also interested in the deal, but it is important he develops in Holland.
“I heard about the talk of Liverpool being interested, but Liverpool have never given any signal to Feyenoord or me that they are interested.
”It is not difficult for Liverpool to find my number. There are six or seven clubs interested, but Liverpool is not one of them.”
Castaignos is attracted by the prospect of working under Arsene Wenger, but a deal is not likely to be done in the coming weeks.
“The manager at Arsenal is the most important person in our vision and we hope Arsenal will make this sort of deal,” said Treffers.
“We are now awaiting the action from Arsenal. They said last week that they will go to Feyenoord in the start of July as at this moment the most important thing for the clubs is to make the choices for the first team.
“Arsenal and the other clubs are in the market for first team players and Luc is not a player for the first team for next season.”
