Inter president Massimo Moratti has confirmed the club is in negotiations with Chelsea over moves for Deco and Ricardo Carvalho.
The Portugal internationals both played for Jose Mourinho at Porto in the Champions League-winning side of 2004 and, after a difficult season at Stamford Bridge, they have indicated that they would welcome the chance for a reunion at Inter.
Asked about Deco’s comments, Moratti told La Stampa: “It’s something that is nice to hear.
“Mourinho also wants Carvalho and the negotiations are well underway.”
There has been plenty of speculation recently about the possibility of Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaving Inter to join Barcelona or Real Madrid after the Sweden striker suggested he was looking for a new challenge, but Moratti says he is not overly worried about the situation.
“It is not the first year that Ibra has done this,” he said.
“I don’t know how serious it is this time. We’ll see. We have three months to resolve the issue and I believe that, in the end, he will stay.
“It’s not something I lose any sleep over.
“Only time will tell if we will have the chance to sell on terms that suit us. Otherwise, things will remain as they are.
“So far, no offers have arrived.”
Asked about his dinner with Barcelona president Joan Laporta to discuss a potential swap deal between Ibrahimovic and Samuel Eto’o, he added: “I dined with him out of curiosity.
“Knowing that Ibrahimovic was open to joining Barcelona, I wanted to find out what interest Barca had and whether we could set something up to our advantage.
“In the end, I was saying good things about Ibra while Laporta was doing the same with Eto’o, so we left saying that the best thing would perhaps be for us to keep our own players.”
There have also been rumours that Lyon striker Karim Benzema could be targeted as a replacement for Ibrahimovic, and Moratti admits the player is under consideration.
“That story has some basis in truth,” he said.
“We are trying to work out the market value of other players – we hope that the prices are not as high as suggested in some newspapers.
“To be honest, our policy is to hold onto the players we have, but if you do end up selling then you have to be ready to target players with the same quality.”
