Lyon coy on Benzema's future

by Laurent Picard , 15 June 2009

Lyon have reacted to Inter’s comments on Karim Benzema by saying that anything can happen.

Inter chairman Massimo Moratti has stated that the French striker is an option for the Nerazzurri if they lose Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

And OL sporting director Bernard Lacombe has reacted to this declaration by saying that nothing is ever guaranteed, even if the Ligue 1 top guns would be happy to keep their goal-machine next season.

“You can never say never in football,” Lacombe told Le Dauphine Libere. “But our plan is to stick with Karim for next season.”

Lyon lost their crown this season and finished third in the league, which means that they could face a top team in the Champions League’s preliminary round, but Benzema’s agent has affirmed that a departure is not on the cards.

“Lyon don’t need cash for the moment and Karim fully intends to stay, ahead of the 2010 World Cup,” Karim Djaziri said.
