Tosh McKinlay has told Setanta Sports News that Celtic fans are guaranteed attractive football under Tony Mowbray, but conceded he will be axed if they are not successful.
The former Hibernian and West Bromwich manager replaced Gordon Strachan on Tuesday afternoon and McKinlay thinks Mowbray was the best coach they could attract.
“When the job first came up I thought he was the outstanding candidate and I’m delighted he’s the new manager of Celtic football club,” the ex-Celtic defender told Setanta Sports News.
“He’s never wavered in his belief of how the game should be played and that’s the Celtic way- get the ball on the ground and play football.”
He continued: “I don’t think Celtic will attract the big name managers, what they will attract is the new breed of managers and he will go about the job ably assisted by Peter Grant.
“They know all that’s required to be a success there and they will go in there with a freshness and it will be a new start for Celtic.
“But if there’s one thing that’s guaranteed is that Celtic will be playing attractive football from the start of the season but that must be coupled with winning things.
“I played with Tony and Peter in a team that played attractive football but never won the championship, and ultimately that costs you your job.”
