Middlesbrough have announced that assistant manager Malcolm Crosby has become a victim of what they describe as ‘a backroom team re-organisation’.
Crosby, who joined Middlesbrough in July 2004 as reserve team manager working under Steve McClaren, was a key confidante of Gareth Southgate during the club’s relegation last season.
But the former Sunderland and Oxford manager has been axed by Boro as they prepare for life in The Championship.
“Gareth Southgate has decided to make changes at the club and unfortunately I am part of those changes,” Crosby told the club’s official website.
“I am very disappointed after working for the past three years as Gareth’s assistant. But I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the club, from the backroom staff, players and coaches, for making my time at Middlesbrough an enjoyable one.”
Chief executive Keith Lamb added: “We would like to thank Malcolm for all his work over the last three years and wish him every success for the future.”
Boro have also announced that sports psychologist Michael Caulfield has left The Riverside.
