You can't buy history, says Figo to Madrid

by Laurent Picard , 17 June 2009

Luis Figo has insisted that Real Madrid boss Florentino Perez can buy anything he wants, but not success.

The 36-year-old former Galactico has expressed his views on Madrid’s new project, following Kaka’s transfer and Cristiano Ronaldo's proposed move, and nothing has changed according to him.

Perez’s concept remains the same, but the former Portugal international, who hung up his boots at the end of the season, has warned the businessman that massive investment does not always bring titles.

“The philosophy is still the same – signing great players. At the moment Perez is buying everything he wants to, the best players in the world, but this doesn’t guarantee your success,” Figo told Onda Cero.

Figo has also declared that in the case Zlatan Ibrahimovic decided to change clubs, Inter would have to allow him to move on.

“At the moment I think he is going to stay at Inter, we will see in the future,” he added. “But at the end of the day, the player is the one who decides where he is playing his football and you cannot retain a player against his own will.”
