Wolves won't settle for relegation battle

by Tom Adams , 17 June 2009

Wolverhampton Wanderers chief executive Jez Moxey has told Setanta Sports News that the promoted side will not be satisfied with aiming for 17th place in the coming season.

Mick McCarthy’s side reached The Premier League after winning the Championship title and on the day that the top flight fixtures were released, Moxey is clearly full of hope and expectation.

The Molineux chief hopes to follow in the footsteps of Stoke by upsetting the established order and avoiding a prolonged relegation battle.

“I think we have got to try and be as high as possible,” Moxey told Setanta Sports News.

“Psychologically not just talk about finishing fourth bottom but looking to finish as high as possible and who knows what may happen.

“If you look back to my former club Stoke City, who did so well, I think everybody, including me, thought they would be almost certain to go down.

“I think Tony Pulis and Peter Coates and everybody at Stoke City did so well.

“If you can end up mid-table as they did in their first season in The Premier League, that would be remarkable.”

Wolves have already signed American goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann and Serbia international Nenad Milijas as they prepare for life in the top flight.
