Chelsea defender goes Dutch again

by Tom Adams , 17 June 2009

Chelsea defender Slobodan Rajkovic will spend another season on loan with Steve McClaren’s FC Twente, the Dutch club announced late on Wednesday night.

Rajkovic, 20, made 13 appearances with the Eredivisie side last season as they qualified for the Champions League and lost in the final of the Dutch Cup.

Signed by Chelsea from OFK Belgrade for a fee in the region of £5million in 2007, Rajkovic was immediately loaned to PSV Eindhoven for the 2007-2008 season and then, last year, Twente.

The Serbian youngster will now remain in Enschede for another campaign as he continues his education in the Eredivisie.

“Slobodan Rajkovic will also be on loan with FC Twente for the coming year,” read a statement from the Dutch club. “The Serbian defender is re-rented for another year from Chelsea.”

Rajkovic courted controversy last September when landing a one-year international ban for spitting at a referee during his country’s campaign at the Beijing Olympics.
