Pompey takeover comes into focus

by Tom Kell , 18 June 2009

Sulaiman Al-Fahim’s takeover of Portsmouth remains on course after leaving his post as chief executive of his company.

Al-Fahim’s protracted purchase of the club shows little sign of reaching a conclusion as due diligence continues.

Some media sources have questioned the credibility of his intentions but a spokesman for the tycoon insists that his decision to depart from his role with Hydra Properties will have no bearing on his £60 million buyout.

'The funding for the Portsmouth takeover is completely separate to the doctor's work with Hydra Properties,” said the spokesman.

“There is no relationship so there is no impact in terms of the takeover.

“His exit from the role of chief executive at Hydra Properties means he will have less responsibility for the day-to-day running of the company.

“As such, that gives the doctor more time to work on Portsmouth.”
