Swans rebuff Burnley bid for Scotland

by Tom Kell , 19 June 2009

Swansea have confirmed that Premier League new boys Burnley have tabled a bid for striker Jason Scotland.

Scotland’s agent Mike Berry exclusively told setanta.com this week that Owen Coyle was keen on reuniting with a player he formerly managed north of the border with St Johnstone.

That interest has now come to fruition but it seems that The Clarets will have to up their offer if they are to have any hope of signing the Trinidad and Tobago international.

“Burnley have made an approach for Jason Scotland but our valuation for a player who has finished as our top scorer over the last two seasons is miles apart,” said Swans chairman Huw Jenkins on the club’s official website.

“We value Jason very highly – after all he has scored 53 goals in the last two seasons for us.

“I think everyone in football is well aware now that we do not need to sell anyone. And we certainly won’t let any player go for below what we think they are worth – whether that’s Jason Scotland or anyone else for that matter.”

Berry claimed that the bid was in excess of £1 million but also warned that Roberto Martinez is ‘very interested’ in reuniting with the player at Wigan.
