Yohan Cabaye says he wants to join a top French club before making the step to his dream club Arsenal.
The Gunners are believed to be keen on the 23-year-old, but the promising Lille midfielder has insisted that he will wait for the right moment before making the step to such a prestigious club.
Ligue 1 champions Bordeaux are also interested and Cabaye feels that may be the best option at this stage of his career.
“I am 23 and a career is short,” Cabaye told Foot Mercato. “I feel like I need a fresh challenge to continue developing and reach the next level.
“Bordeaux's interest is flattering. They are the French champions and the team that played the best football last season.
“I would jump at the chance to move there, but I am not the only one who has to decide.”
Of Arsenal's reported interest in his services, he said: “I would rather play for a top French team first.”
