Didier Drogba fully intends to remain at Chelsea until the expiration of his current contract at the end of next season, and has revealed he almost lined up alongside Samuel Eto’o at Stamford Bridge at one stage.
The Ivorian striker’s future at the West London club has for some time been in doubt, with his dedication to The Blues having been called into question at numerous points throughout his time at Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho’s departure in September 2007 heralded the beginning of Drogba’s unsettlement, and he has been linked with an exit from Chelsea ever since.
However, the former Marseille forward intends to honour his current deal and assess his options upon its conclusion.
"I have one year remaining on my contract with Chelsea," Drogba told L'Equipe.
"Last September when my book was published, I stated I will stay until the end of my contract.
"However a lot of things can happen that won't depend on me. When I was at Marseille I really thought I could stay a long time, and a few days later I was asked to leave, so..."
A reunification with Mourinho at Inter has been widely touted for Drogba, with Barcelona hitman Eto’o having been mooted as the Portuguese coach’s ideal choice of partner for him.
Drogba said: "Could I play one day with Eto'o? Yes, it was even almost done at one moment when I was at Chelsea.
"Does Mourinho want it? Yes, it is his dream. So they just both have to come to Chelsea!
"Seriously, if he signs at Chelsea, Samuel will have a great experience with a great coach."
