Barca hopeful of Eto'o stay

by Chris Stanton , 21 June 2009

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reiterated his side’s intention to retain the services of star striker Samuel Eto’o.

Eto’o is out of contract at the end of next season and talks aimed at securing the Cameroonian’s long-term future at Camp Nou have so far failed to reach a resolution.

The former Mallorca star has been linked with Inter in a swap deal with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

"Eto'o finishes his contract next season and this means we must sit down for a talk. The will of the club is that he continues here for many years, always in compliance with our pay structure," Laporta told his club's official website.

"For me he is the best striker in the world. It would be nice if he finished his career at Barca."
