Liverpool have confirmed they have reached agreement with Portsmouth for the transfer of Glen Johnson, whilst the player has settled on personal terms.
The England international will now undergo a medical before completing his move to Anfield.
Rafa Benitez's side were in direct competition with Johnson's former club Chelsea for the player, after The Blues lodged a bid to bring him back to Stamford Bridge just two years after selling him to Pompey.
However, Liverpool is the destination of choice for Johnson after he opted for a move north.
“Liverpool FC confirmed this evening (Monday) they had reached an agreement with Portsmouth Football Club and with Glen Johnson for the transfer of the player to Anfield,” read a short statement on Liverpool’s official website.
A fee of £18 million is believed to have persuaded Pompey to allow Johnson to leave Fratton Park, just 24 months after they paid £4m for him.
