Alves 'certain' to quit Porto

by Toby Davis , 23 June 2009

Reported Chelsea target Bruno Alves has edged closer to a move to Stamford Bridge after the player’s father admitted he will certainly quit Porto this summer.

The Portugal centre back, who is rated in the £25 million bracket, is a big-name target for new Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti .

But the former Milan manager reportedly faces competition from Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid to secure the defender’s signature.

“It is certain he will leave Porto,” said his father Washington Alves. “The player is happy at the moment because he is under contract, but we really think this is the moment for him to get a transfer.”

The arrival of Alves at Stamford Bridge could pave the way for Ricardo Carvalho’s switch to Inter to reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho.
