Swansea confirm Scotland interest

by Tom Adams , 23 June 2009

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed that Wigan have made contact regarding Trinidad and Tobago international Jason Scotland.

The 30-year-old striker has attracted interest from both Wigan, managed by former Swansea manager Roberto Martinez, and Burnley after scoring 45 goals in 90 games for the Welsh club.

His agent exclusively revealed to setanta.com that Wigan had made an approach earlier in the week and now Swansea have confirmed the tentative interest in their player.

"I have had a chat with Wigan about Jason Scotland," Jenkins told the South Wales Evening Post.

"They have not made an offer, but they have asked to be kept informed of Jason's situation."

Swansea recently claimed that they had turned down an offer from Burnley but while Owen Coyle has admitted his interest in the player, the Clarets manager denies making an official bid.

“At no time have we made a written offer for Jason Scotland,” said Coyle.

“There was just a private conversation between Brendan Flood and Huw Jenkins where they spoke about the player.

“I’ve always said that we are discreet and will always keep our business close to our chest.”
