Whelan working on Wigan wishlist

by Tom Adams , 23 June 2009

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan says he is 'working hard' to build on the signing of Jordi Gomez and deliver the players that new manager Roberto Martinez has identified as possible recruits.

The Latics made their first capture under the new regime when acquiring Gomez from Espanyol for £1.7 million and have been linked with a number of other players, including Swansea striker Jason Scotland and another attacker from the Spanish club, Raul Tamudo.

Whelan is reluctant to speculate on individual targets but has revealed he is currently working through the list of names.

"We got our priority list from Roberto, and we are working hard on it," Whelan told the Wigan Observer.

"Jordi Gomez was right at the top and we moved very quickly on that, and we are moving on others as well.

"But there are a lot of players away on holiday – and I think the market will only rev up in about a week or 10 days."
