Tony Mowbray can’t wait to take Celtic to Wembley for a tournament as part of their pre-season preparations, but reminded his players of its importance.
The Hoops face Egyptian club Al-Ahly before Tottenham and Mowbray is thrilled to become the first manager to take a Scottish side to the new ground.
“The Wembley Cup gives me the perfect opportunity to test my players against some of the biggest teams in Europe and Africa,” he told the Celtic website.
“The players are excited about being involved in a tournament like this and our intention is to put on a spectacle for the fans.”
Mowbray added: “I have very happy memories of Wembley from my own playing days. Scoring the equaliser against Barnsley in the play-off final to help Ipswich into The Premier League was one of the highlights of my career.
“It’s always an incredible experience to play at Wembley and I’m honoured to be the first man to ever take a Scottish club to the new stadium.”
