Despite admitting his season to date has been ‘complicated’, Carlos Tevez has pledged his long term future to Manchester United and hopes to soon sign a permanent deal with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
After winning the Champions League and Premier League last season, the arrival of Dimitar Berbatov has restricted the Argentina star to only eight league starts in the current campaign and United have still not transformed his two-year loan deal into a long-term arrangement.
A lack of playing time, coupled with United’s failure to secure his future, has led to suggestions that clubs such as Real Madrid and Arsenal could be poised to sign the three-time South American Player of the Year.
But Tevez has reassured United that his preference is to stay at Old Trafford and the striker anticipates more news regarding his future in the coming days.
“I am not preoccupied about my future,” Tevez told the Daily Mail. “My instincts are to stay with the club and in the next week or so I think there will be more contact with regards to sorting out my contract. That is what we've been told.
“My agent is in touch with United all the time and he tells me that everything is very positive now. So it is up to the club. Other clubs have asked about me but I see my future at United.”
Tevez has also denied that his lack of first team action has seen him fall out with Ferguson and the former Corinthians and Boca Juniors star has no intention of turning his back on a £32 million permanent move.
“Some people say that £32m is high but I cannot comment on that. Those are the figures that were agreed at the start. I am not responsible.
“It has been a complicated season for me, there is no point denying that. I have not been able to get as many minutes on the field as I would like because the quality of the forwards at the club is incredible.
“It is not easy for forwards to get into this team and I have suffered. But that does not make me want to leave. I have no urge to run away.
“I am in Buenos Aires for some private business at the moment and the coach has told me to rest. I have no problem with Sir Alex Ferguson. I accept his selections and he has told me that he wants me to stay. That is crucial to me. I will be back next week.”
