Walsh eyeing return to saddle

by Michelle Fortune , 09 June 2009

Ruby Walsh is confident of being given the all-clear to resume race-riding next week.

Walsh has been on the sidelines since fracturing his left ankle in a fall from Imperial Hills at Killarney on May 10. The incident, which resulted in Willie Mullins' charge suffering a fatal injury, left the jockey with a fractured ankle and a small break behind his right knee.

He is due to visit an orthopaedic surgeon next week and is hopeful that he will be allowed to return to the saddle in time to partner one of Mullins' horses in the French Champion Hurdle at Auteuil on Sunday week.

"I'm going back to have the injury checked out on Monday when the cast will probably be removed from my ankle," Walsh explained.

"I'm feeling good, but we'll wait and see what the doctor says. All going well, I'd hope to be back in action at the end of the week."
