Gary Shaw is trying to bring the Chad Dawson-Glen Johnson fight to Madison Square Garden in November or December.
Dawson (25-0, 17 KOs) had the hardest night of his professional career against Johnson last year and after being unable to find a marquee opponent is set to fight the tough Jamaican once more.
Shaw is desperate to make Dawson (pictured above with Antonio Tarver) a big name in the sport and feels getting him a headline bout at the mecca of boxing live on HBO will help him do so.
"I believe Chad Dawson is the best fighter in the world," Shaw said. "This is a fight the writers wanted to see again more than anything else."
"My ideal place would be Madison Square Garden," Shaw said. "I think Chad needs that kind of exposure, and if we can make tickets very inexpensive, we could expose him to a lot of people.
Although there is another active fighter in the light heavyweight division who can provide a strong argument to be the best 175lbs fighters in the world, Shaw has given up hope of Dawson ever meeting him.
"Bernard Hopkins is not going to fight Chad Dawson, he'll always find an excuse not to fight him," Shaw said. "It's apparent at this stage of his career, and he's had an illustrious career, that it's time for Bernard to retire."
