'Every chance' Delegator will drop back to sprint trip

by Johnny Ward , 21 June 2009

Brian Meehan says that Delegator may well revert to sprinting at some stage this term.

The classy Dansili-bred finished second in the English 2000 Guineas and St James' Palace Stakes this year, as well as flopping on heavy ground in the Irish Guineas.

After his Royal Ascot run on Tuesday, trainer Meehan intimated that a break awaited Delegator and that remains the manifesto.

Deauville's Prix Jacques Le Marois in mid-August over a mile is very much a possibility for the colt, but Meehan believes that dropping back in distance must be considered.

"We felt that the July Cup would come too soon after Royal Ascot, but there is every chance that he'll run in a major six-furlong race later in the year," he said to the Racing Post.
